Hello and welcome to my page! My name is Colleen Wirtz and I am the 5th grade homeroom teacher.
I am a 2010 graduate from Northern Illinois University (NIU) and have had clinical positions as well as experience with teaching children for many years.
I also have worked for the Park District of Oak Park, I taught different classes about cooking and crafts, as well as figure skating lessons for students ages three to 13. I was the Camp Director for Kiddie Kamp. With this role I implemented and prepared lesson plans as well as rules and discipline between the staff and students. I worked major fairs over the years such as Barrie Fest and a Day in our Village. For the fairs I ran games and helped to teach the children who came to play.
At NIU I taught in different classrooms with different needs. For my clinical placements I taught in a 4 th grade classroom and an inclusion kindergarten classroom. During these placements I worked with students in reading, language, and other special needs. My student teaching experience included two 8th grade classrooms. I taught Language Arts and Social Studies. I was a substitute teacher for Ascension and St. Giles.
This is my 5th year of teaching here at St. Leonard School and I could not be more happy. The community here is so welcoming and each year gets more fun
